More details from Hutcheson foreclosure lawsuit ruling were released Monday.
Contradicting earlier stories, the ruling only delays foreclosure of the hospital through August. Federal judge required Erlanger to post foreclosure notice in county papers (Dade/Walker/Catoosa) by August 31 and clarify plans to keep Hutcheson open even if property is sold.
Judge also rejected Hutcheson/Walker argument about rules prohibiting foreclosure of public hospitals; described GA law as “contradictory and vague.”
Definitely NOT the Hutcheson victory initially reported over the weekend.
LPD needs help identifying a suspect (with no description other than “black male”) involved in a shooting at Garden Apartments around 9 last Friday night.
Good luck:
- WQCH Radio, 08/05/14: “LAFAYETTE POLICE ARE LOOKING FOR A SUSPECT IN A ‘SHOTS FIRED CALL’ AT LAFAYETTE GARDEN APARTMENTS, LAST FRIDAY NIGHT.
- “WITNESSES SAW ONE BLACK MALE CHASING ANOTHER BLACK MAN, SHOOTING A HANDGUN AS THEY RAN, AT AROUND 9 PM.
- “INVESTIGATORS SAY THE MAN WHO WAS BEING CHASED WAS LATER LOCATED AT A LOCAL RESIDENCE, BUT HE REFUSED TO GIVE POLICE ANY DETAILS ABOUT THE INCIDENT.
- “NOW, THEY HAVE ONLY A VAGUE DESCRIPTION OF THE SUSPECT’S GET-AWAY CAR AND SOME SPENT SHELL CASINGS FROM THE PATTERSON ROAD APARTMENT COMPLEX GROUNDS. THEY SUSPECT THE ARGUMENT WAS DRUG RELATED.
- “ANYONE WITH INFORMATION ON THE SHOOTER, SHOULD CONTACT POLICE.”
Would be nice if they’d share that vague description of the get-away car. It can’t possibly be more vague than the description of the suspect.
Last Tuesday a Summerville landmark came crashing to the ground – another remnant of Northwest Georgia’s 20th century textile heritage sent off to scrap.
Around 10:30 Monday night a man jumped in front of – and was killed by – a train in Whitfield County. Incident happened south of Dalton along Dug Gap Road on one of the busiest rail lines in the southeast.
That’s at least the third train accident (if it was an accident) in Whitfield this year.
Detectives have been unable to identify the man; he’s described as in his 20’s, white, wearing a Monster Energy Drink hat, black Nike shoes, and blue Nike shirt with sleeves cut off. He had short hair (color not specified) and a goatee.
- Update from The Care Mission: “In July we assisted 670 households. Those households consisted of 2,169 persons. 84% of those served were children, senior citizens or disabled individuals. …We were also able to assist 18 families (45 children)with school clothes at no cost. We thank God that He provided so that this could be done.
- “..Each summer our monetary support takes a dive while the needs of those we assist takes a jump up. July’s 2,169 individuals assisted is a new record while our thrift store sales were at a near record low.”
How can you cancel Comcast without getting the company mandated runaround?
Summerville First Baptist Church gave away school supplies to 291 kids over the weekend.
Similar events have been held in Walker County at Oakwood Baptist, Max Stoker Rec, and Macedonia Baptist in Villanow, among others.
Are YOUR kids ready for school yet? Class for Walker County starts August 13th.
A memo detailing political pressure from Gov. Deal to the ethics committee wasn’t included in a recent court case. GA Attorney General Olens has said the memo wasn’t relevant to anything, but it was almost referenced during a court hearing.
If the memo had surfaced when it should have, a settled lawsuit against Deal might have gone quite differently.
As of last week, Minnesota residents are protected by law from police taking property without proving they committed a crime.
In Georgia we’ve got no such protections. Asset forfeiture reform here has been blocked time and time again by a spineless state legislature and dirty cops like Steve Wilson who put their own budgets ahead of citizen’s rights.
Governor Deal says state tax credit for TV and film production added over $5 billion to the state’s economy during the last year.
However, Georgia’s growing film/TV industry is beginning to hit roadblocks due to insufficient technicians trained to do things like carpentry, plumbing, and audio/video production.
Scarcity of people with technical ability goes well beyond entertainment; a shortage of skilled tradesmen (and tradeswomen) could soon cripple the nation’s economy.
(Maybe taking that welding class wouldn’t have been too bad an idea afterall.)
After years of battling Clayton County’s school board, an upstart charter school there was finally approved by the state. But the first day of class didn’t happen when city officials in Riverdale refused to let school employees and students use the building.
School choice runs into obstacles at every level.
You know how it feels: sit down to watch a movie or TV show and a “southern” character played by someone from California or England uses an atrocious, unrealistic southern accent that distracts from the whole production.
What are your nominees for worst (and best) “southern accents” on TV or the big screen?
