The light display is tacky and poorly done. Much of it isn’t even synchronised with the music. Big waste of money.

It is sad that LaFayette residents have to pay such enormous electrical bills after Christmas for a pitiful display such as this. We all need to stand up for our rights.
Some of our elderly residents have $300 and $400 electrical and gas bills during the winter and only get small social security checks, often less than $300. Can’t we even give them a break? All of us concerned residents need to get together and stand up for our rights. If we don’t stop Bebe and her entourage from building a hotel we are also going to be paying county taxes to help fund that mistake. Look at all of the money she has already blown on unused buildings and property that she has purchased, trips out of the country ,(Mullis), and to Washington, New York an no telling where else and we continue to have to drive on rough roads all over the county. It is definitely time for a change in the city and also county!!! And, by the way, why are we sending our salt trucks over to Dade county when we have snow and ice?

We took our six year old great grandson to the light show last friday night and he thought it was great. As a matter of fact all of the children that attended, that we met, seemed to be having a ball. Our grandson was with us and told us that he had taken the family to the light show in Brevard county Florida before they came to LaFayette. He said our light show was much better than the Florida show and he had to pay $10 to drive through it. I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder and children haven’t yet learned how to tell the difference between tacky and wonderfull. They just know what they like and dislike and our little guy liked it.

I have to say that I agree with Wayne. Kids will enjoy flashing lights and music, which is why most kids movies have lots of colors, movement, and music. However, I also think that the citizens of this town shouldn’t have to shell out such a large chunk of cash every year for something that could be done differently to make it better and cost less. The Florida one Wayne referenced was probably privately done thus the $10 charge or even if the city was responsible for it, at least the admission charge would prevent any tax rate or utility bill increase. There’s always a better way to do stuff, however sadly around here there is never a worse way to do them.

I’ve gotten a complaint about some of the music included in the show.
They probably meant to get The Tractors’ song “Santa Claus Is Comin’ (In A Boogie Woogie Choo Choo Train)” but ended up with Tractors’ “Baby Likes To Rock It” which goes:
“Johnny’s in the back room suckin’ on his gin
Police are at the front door screamin’ let me in
Go–go–go–go dancer’s busy showin’ off her chest
She don’t know what she’s doin’ but she tries to do her best
She got the boogie woogie woogie spread all over the place
She’s got it stacked to the ceilin’–got it stickin’ in your face
Ya know my baby likes to rock it like a boogie woogie choo choo train”
Not exactly a family song, but nobody in city government is paying enough attention to their job to notice it’s in there and the lights don’t really synch up to anything anyway…

I guess it gives the city cops something to watch in the evenings while the thieves, prostitutes, and drug dealers have their way in the fair city of Lafayette. It’s just another stupid idea cooked up to throw money away. King Solomon said “there is no new thing under the sun”. There is nothing that surprises me anymore in this town.

I do have to agree that is kind of a waste of money if they are going to make it as tacky as it is, but i also have to say that the younger kids do enjoy it. I just wish there was a way for everyone to be able to go out into town and enjoy the holidays. Have a place for everyone to go and hang out or do something. I think its sad that i got a text from almost all of my friends asking me if I wanted to get drunk after my family dinners, and when I ask them why they get drunk every weekend or on any holiday they tell me, “Is there anything else to do?”
Lindsey said: 2010.12.29 15:49
oh come on josh, you know you wanna get drunk.
Seriously though, my kids enjoyed the light show. Having said that…maybe only run the thing for a special weekend or two? It’d cost less, still be breifly available, and wouldn’t look tacky for too terribly long.
Oh yeah, Hegwood…I know you must simply be getting all kinds of tired of the partying…but Bobby, Ben, and I are having a New Years thing at Ben’s house.
Here’s hoping you’re the right Josh Hegwood…if not, then I guess it doesn’t matter what Ben, Bobby, and I do!

They’re in West LaFayette, across the tracks where the law seldom ventures.

I know it’s not popular to go against the flow, but there are literally dozens of families in LaFayette that struggle to pay their utility bills. Our church meets with many of them to assess the need and we actually help pay some of these bills. This light show is a waste of a limited resource and the city should be ashamed … but I know they know no shame.

I like the light show. I wish LaFayette would do more things like this. I had some friends from out of town visit and they saw this, loved it and wished their town had something like this.

I loved the light show that we had in town and so did my kids. My little one was dancing all over the place. lol I dont think its that big of a deal to have stuff like this in our town. We could use more stuff for our kids in this town and then maybe they will stay out of trouble.

Im not talking about just stuff for elementary school kids. We need something for all the kids. If they had something to do just like i have heard everyone saying, then they wouldnt be getting in to so much trouble. And as far as the song, the younger kids dont understand the words in that song. So i dont see anything wrong with it. Just because i have my own opinion ya’ll want to have little smart comments about it. Im starting to think that ya’ll have started most of the fights that have been going on, on your site. Well, i wont be back. Thank you for showing me your true colors.

I’ve said this time and again, people lighten up! Goodness crap. My kids are 5, 7. 9 and the two older ones could figure that out if they heard it more than once, but after that song we didn’t go back. The lights are cool for kids to see, no doubt. And I think that was a mistake to have that song in there. Its fine that the city has that, but I think the point is that they thought they’d make money off of it and it would bring people into town…that’s not going to happen…they aren’t coming to town to spend lots of money because of the Christmas lights. They are tacky, but kids don’t care, but did they really put it up for the kids? Also, sense of humor…it goes a long way!

I see the City has thrown away a large fist full of money on that ridiculous light show again. If they insist on wasting tax money, they could at least be a little more creative.
That has to be some of the lamest crap I’ve ever witnessed.
