What kind of man is Hutcheson CEO Farrell Hayes?

He may have revealed more of his true character than he wanted, Wednesday night in an exchange on social media.

The discussion began Tuesday in a semi-public Facebook group for former and current Hutcheson employees. Hutcheson’s onetime Emergency Services Coordinator, Scott Lewis, shared his thoughts – and the thoughts of many others – about the hospital’s leadership:

Nearly a day later Farrell Hayes’ wife Susan (also an employee of the hospital) responded. Lewis replied to her, others chimed in, and the thread started to take on a life of its own:

Around that time Farrell Hayes himself friended and messaged Scott Lewis on Facebook to continue the discussion in private.

As one might expect from an educated, highly-paid hospital executive, Hayes carefully and considerately explained each of Mr. Lewis’ concerns in a thoughtful manner, produced evidence in his defense, and explained his position to everyone’s satisfaction.

No, actually he didn’t do that at all.

According to screenshots Scott Lewis provided to LU, Hayes accused Mr. Lewis of making threats, called him a woman beater and a filthy name, then suggested they fight inside Hayes’ hospital office:

The middle-school locker room mentality of that conversation neither deserves or needs much additional commentary. It could, however, explain quite a bit about how Hutcheson has reached its current state of disarray.

Hayes and Hutcheson’s lawyers will appear in an Atlanta courtroom one last time today in a final effort to get a buyout deal approved before it shuts down, probably forever, on Friday morning.

Hopefully if some miracle deal IS agreed on, it won’t include a role for Farrell Hayes.

Irrelevant parts of the initial Facebook group discussion were removed for ease of understanding. Content of the message session between Hayes and Lewis was not modified.

  1. If this is real then why not go public? It scares me that people in positions of power like this are able to cover up so much immoral and dishonest behavior.

  2. I agree with you Scott Lewis. We the people of Walker County are stupid. We let a sole commissioner break this county and run it in the ground for years. And her friend the CEO of the hospital lined his pockets and help Bebe line her pockets too. Shame on you, Mr. Hayes you idiot. I remember when Hutcheson was a hopping place and you and Bebe and others stole money and lined your own pockets. And now we are out of a hospital. You wasn’t smart enough to even be a crook. And Scott you better be careful, people in power here in Walker County are dangerous. Nothing gets done. Even if you have a problem with an attorney here, they say (call the bar) they know they aren’t going to do nothing. They are all friends. Mr. Hayes and Ms. Hayes you are very unprofessional and have no morals. And yes Scott Macmillian it is very scary and it happens here in Walker County all the time.

  3. SMH

  4. Disgusting but not surprised considering the source….

  5. Sounds like the pot is calling the kettle black? John Sharp

  6. Smh…. and this man ran a hospital??? Wow

  7. What has not been mentioned is that T.F Hayes had a recent bankruptcy record right before being hired by Hutcheson, and multiple legal/financial problems/court when he owned/ran Healthcorp of TN, Inc., Southern Healthcare of Arkansas, Inc., Southern Healthcare of Alabama, Inc., Dallas County Hospital in Fordyce, Arkansas, and others through the ’90s even as he flew around the country in a Georgia Bulldog-themed turboprop plane. The Battlefield Golf & Country Club fell apart during his tenure as owner – a notable local bank took a bath on that deal.

And yet, when he was hired back to Hutcheson, did anyone require a background check/credit check prior to permitting him access to funds? I think perhaps those that rehired him should be held responsible for such poor professional judgment.

  8. Are you kidding, They probably knew all that. He knew somebody from walker county, or several people. Nobody here will be responsible. Hell they took a booming hospital and stomped it in the ground, just like everything in Walker county. The crooks lined their pockets. Lets get rid of all the crooks from the courthouse all the way down. Until we do, get use to this happening for years to come. Mothers will hire daughters in positions they have held for years and Fathers will hire their sons, or brothers in positions they have held for years. Until we stand together and do this IT WON’T CHANGE.
